News5’s Aksyon Weather Center was cited by three organizations, led by PAGASA, for its use of a high-tech graphics system in creating greater public awareness on the weather and “ingenious contributions and unwavering dedication in upholding the highest standards of sciences in the field of meteorology in the Philippines”.
PAGASA, the AGHAM Partylist and the Philippine Meteorology Society presented a plaque of recognition to News5 during the READY Project National Conference spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and PAGASA at the Hotel Sofitel. The READY Conference highlights the need for hazards mapping and assessment for effective community based disaster risk management.
Launched in September 2010, News5 was also lauded for its "advanced methods in which weather forecasts are disseminated, delivering a more visual and accurate relay of information to Filipino public".
The News5 Aksyon Weather Center uses the METRA Weather System, a state-of-the-art meteorology service based in New Zealand that provides weather products and services using many delivery mechanisms in a variety of formats and graphics. The METRA Weather System presents weather data using touchscreen technology and augmented reality, providing more flexibility to the anchors and enhancing audience interaction.
The public can also access instant weather reports through www.interaksyon.com/weather. The InterAksyon Weather page features important advisories, survival tips, video reports from Aksyon, and weekly forecasts in cities all over the Philippines and around the world.
