At the oral arguments on the impeachment court they won’t meet head-on. However, in front of all the media covering the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato, these two new faces engage in a face-off in the court of public opinion.
For the prosecution panel, their spokesperson is Romero “Miro” Quimbo. He is a first-termer congressman from the 2nd district of Marikina City. A lawyer by profession who became the CEO and President of PAG-IBIG Fund for more than five years. Cong. Quimbo was convinced by Speaker Sonny Belmonte to be one of the prosecution’s talking head.
For the defense panel, their spokesperson is Karen Jimeno. She is also a lawyer by profession who just finished her masters in law at Harvard University. Atty. Jimeno is an associate at Quisumbing Torres law firm. She is a former student of Atty. Mon Esguerra who is a member of CJ Corona’s defense team.
They are both achievers in their own right. Cong. Miro was a member of the UP Student Council and was a captain of the UP Law Debate Team. He was awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award for government service. Quimbo didn’t come from a political family, but from being the head of the country’s largest provider of housing loans, he made it to the Lower House. On the other hand, Karen was ranked 2nd in her graduating batch at University of Asia & the Pacific. She graduated cum laude in UP law school and got a Fullbright scholarship to Harvard University for her masteral degree. With the impeachment trial in full media coverage, Cong. Miro and Atty. Karen have become reluctant celebrities. Well, with their intellect and good looks, they certainly look like celebrities.
On Wednesday, February 1st 2012, Cong. Miro and Atty. Karen face the cameras of TV5’s Anggulo. This time though, they won’t just battle it out in behalf of the prosecution and defense, but they would open up their lives beyond the impeachment trial. Aside from being one of the Liberal party congressmen, Miro is happily married and a loving father of four. Karen has just been married a few days before the impeachment trial and had to cancel her honeymoon in favor of her role as the voice of the defense panel in the media.
Join award-winning Luchi Cruz-Valdes and her team of senior reporters as they cover Quimbo’s and Jimeno’s activities before and after the trial. Has the 2-week run of impeachment made a significant change in their lives? Find out on Anggulo’s airing on Wednesday, (February 1), 10:15pm (after P.S. I Love You) on TV5; with a one-hour Producer’s Cut at earlier timeslot (7:30pm) over Aksyon TV (Channel 41 in Mega Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao, Channel 1 on Cignal Digital TV and Channel 59 on Sky Cable).
