Television viewing is certainly getting exciting on the local front as a major player continues to break in the network duel scene and shakes the TV landscape. Since TV5 was launched with its new look and innovative programming in August 2008, the network has steadily attracted more audiences, gaining substantially in both Nationwide and Mega Manila TV environments and eventually breaking away from the ‘third player role’ as it enters into the dominant networks’ viewership battle.
Continuing to attract a sizeable viewership base, TV5 targets the “Progressive Pinoy” audiences. These are the 30 year-old and below demographic segment belonging to the mass market C and D, who are open to change and are willing to try out new experiences, events, and discoveries. With the Kids and Teens block consisting of Nicktoons, Anime, and youth-oriented shows plus the unique line-up of Young Adults' programs, every young professional, open-minded and active young moms, dynamic and critical-minded teens, and fun-loving kids and those who are simply kids-at-heart, find themselves enjoying the refreshing alternative and novelty of TV5.
True to its rallying call, “Shake Mo TV Mo,” TV5 has successfully created waves in the Filipino’s TV viewing habit—a fact that is supported by official National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) from the AGB New Media Research data, immediately placing TV5 at the No.3 spot in local network ranking, arriving with a remarkable 600% increase in magnitude of audience share since the channel’s recent launch.
Given these official data, TV5 has undoubtedly dislodged its closest rival at the No.3 spot and is on the right track to contend with the two leading networks with its steadily growing number of viewers who are satisfied with the programming shift that offers the best of light entertainment.
The impressive rise in TV5’s viewership also gives a significant boost to the network’s revenue with a notable increase of close to 40% since its launch in August. Moreover, it posted a month-on-month growth of 47% in November—the highest growth rate amongst all key free-to-air network players.
This viewership and advertising increase is indeed an encouraging indication that TV5 has effectively appealed to the Filipino people’s discerning taste with its refreshing programming line-up that respects the viewers’ maturity, sensitivity, intelligence and their need to break free from formulaic and identical TV programs.
